"Creative Intelligence" by Bruce Nussbaum

Earlier today I stumbled across an excerpt from the new book by Bruce Nussbaum called “Creative Intelligence: Harnessing the Power to Create, Connect, and Inspire.” After reading a few pages, I’m looking forward to picking it up when it comes out in March.

"The experiments of psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi determined that there is a distinct cognitive state of mind that individuals enter when they are performing creatively... Csikszentmihalyi built on these ideas and called it the “flow state.” Csikszentmihalyi gave a secular, psychological interpretation to what artists for centuries have described in religious terms such as “God’s gift.”

Here’s the link the book excerpt.I hadn’t followed Nussbaum in a while, but he’s definitely onto something with this new framework for creativity that goes beyond Design Thinking.  Check out this recent Fast Company piece he wrote - Design Thinking Is A Failed Experiment. So What’s Next?

“That scaffolding of Design Thinking, that collection of behaviors is the heart and sole of creativity. It includes being attuned to the people and culture you are immersed in and having the experience, wisdom, and knowledge to frame the real problem and—most important of all perhaps—the ability to create and enact solutions.”

Also I’d love to be a fly on the wall for any conversation between him and IDEO’s Tim Brown.
